The KV Kougars Boys’ Varsity Basketball team traveled to Tri-County to open their 2019-2020 season against the Cavaliers. The Kougars played the game with a very depleted Varsity roster, forcing them to play the entire game with at least some Junior Varsity players on the court. This did not phase the Kougars early on as they played very well in the first half and opened up a 13-point halftime lead. In the second half, foul trouble to Varsity players added more trouble to the roster issues the Kougars were facing. As a result, Tri-County mounted a fourth quarter comeback, but the Kougars showed great determination, grit, and toughness and held on for a 51-47 season opening road win.
Everyone that played contributed positively to the victory. Riley Jordan led the Kougars with 10 points. Matt Caldwell played the best game of his career at the point guard position with 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Will Dyniewski added 9 points and 9 rebounds, Nick Mikash chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds, and Luke Andree added 8 points. Freshman Hayden Dase got his first Varsity action and tallied 8 rebounds as well.
The Kougars will be back in action on Friday December 6th as they travel to Rensselaer to face the Bombers with the JV game starting at 5:30 pm and the Varsity game tipping off at 7:00 pm.
