On Thursday February 6th, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team hosted the Hobart Brickies in a Northwest Crossroads Conference match-up. It was a tale of two entirely different halves for both the Kougars and the Brickies. In the first half, Hobart came out the aggressor and played very well on both offense and defense. Hobart frustrated the Kougars and dictated the game for the first 16 minutes taking a commanding 34-15 lead into the locker room.
Something changed during halftime because the script completely flipped in the second half. KV was the team playing the role of the aggressor and played exceptionally well on both ends of the floor. By the end of the third quarter, the Kougars had already cut a 19-point halftime Brickie lead down to seven at 44-37. The momentum carried over in the fourth quarter, with the Kougars outscoring Hobart 22-5, completing an amazing comeback for a hard fought 59-49 conference victory.
Gavin Herrema led all scorers with 33 points, including going 16-18 from the free throw line. Nick Mikash also scored in double figures for the Kougars adding 10 points.
