On Saturday February 8th, the Kankakee Valley Boys’ Varsity Basketball team hosted the LaPorte Slicers for an early afternoon game. LaPorte came out on fire from three-point range hitting 10 three pointers in the first half, while shooting 75% overall. To KV’s credit, they also shot the ball pretty well in the first half and were able to hang around, only trailing 42-33 at the half. The Kougars cut the lead to three at 47-44 with about 3:30 left in the third quarter and had a couple of possessions to make it even closer, but were unable to capitalize. LaPorte’s would then methodically open up the lead again over time and came away with a 78-61 victory over the Kougars.
Leading KV in scoring was sophomore Nick Mikash with 23 points. The Kougars did have three other players in double figures in this game. Junior Elijah Carden scored 12 points and seniors Gavin Herrema and Tyler Martin each added 10 points for KV.
