On Saturday February 22nd, the KV Boys Varsity Basketball Team celebrated Senior Night and honored their two Seniors players (Gavin Herrema and Tyler Martin) between the JV and Varsity games.

The Kougars hosted the Hanover Central Wildcats, a Sectional opponent. The Wildcats got out to an early lead with the help of some poor shooting by KV, who ended the first quarter going just 2-18 from the field and trailing Hanover Central by a score of 16-5. The second quarter was the exact opposite of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wildcats could not find the basket and KV surged back to trail only by one at halftime, 21-20.

The game was back and forth the rest of the way, with KV taking a brief three-point lead 42-39 with about five minutes remaining in the game on a three-point basket from Riley Jordan. Hanover Central made a couple more plays down the stretch and hit their late game free throws to secure the hard fought 52-45 victory over the Kougars.

There was only one player in double figure scoring for KV in this game and that was Sophomore Nick Mikash who had a game-high 20 points. Nick also grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Kougars in that category as well. Junior Elijah Carden chipped in 9 points for the Kougars.
