On Saturday February 8th, the Boys Freshman basketball team traveled to Lowell High School to participate in the Lowell Freshman Basketball Tournament. After defeating Griffith earlier in the day, the Kougars earned a spot in the Championship game against the Merrillville Pirates. KV got off to a good start and played with a lead most of the first half, leading by a score of 35-29 at the break over the Pirates. The lead would eventually get up to 10 for the Kougars at 41-31 before Merrillville began on a big run, outscoring KV 11-0 the rest of the third quarter and taking a 42-41 lead into the last six minutes. The Pirate press caused KV problems and those problems continued in the fourth quarter leading to a Merrillville victory 61-50 over the Kougars.

Leading KV in scoring was Jude Gott with 25 points. Logan Parks added 10 points for the Kougars. KV would come in second place in the tournament. The Boys Freshman Basketball overall season record now stands at 13-4 entering the final week of their season.
