Game Recap

The Kougars had a thrilling comeback victory Monday night against the visiting Hobart Brickies. Will Dyniewski led the way with a hard-earned 19 points. Will was everywhere on the defensive and offensive glass, collecting rebound after rebound using sheer hustle. Elijah Gott had a solid night ending with 13 points. Josh Poortinga came up huge in the 4th quarter with 4 huge points in the last 2 minutes. With the Kats down 5 with 1:30 left to play, they stepped it up on the defensive end and got crutial stops while executing on the defensive end. After the game was tied with 6 seconds left, Grant Marshall drove the length of the floor, drew a foul, and sank 2 game-winning free throws with 1.9 seconds left. The Kougars return to action Thursday when they take on Covenant Christian’s Junior Varsity team at home.

Game Recap

KV fell at Munster tonight 45-69. The Kougars struggled shooting the ball all night and breaking the half-court pressure early. Mac Shane Howard was tremendous on the offensive glass, he also led KV with 15 points. Trenton Walstra added 8 points, Gavinn Bakker 6, Ray Smith 4, Billy Bonilla 3, Danny Rockley 3, Cam Hemphill 2, Hunter Van Soest 2, and Tyler Hein 2. Munster was led in scoring by center Jake Strobjak with 19 points. KV has two games next week going to Hammond Morton on Tuesday and to Hanover Central next Friday.

Game Recap

The KV boys’ basketball team were able to put together two strong performances to win the KV Holiday Tournament. KV began the day facing off with Boone Grove. The Kougars started off really slow falling behind 2-15 at the end of the first quarter. KV was able to put up 29 points in the second quarter to lead 31-19 at the half. The Kougars ended up defeating Boone 55-33. Danny Rockley had a good shooting performance to put up 15. Cameron Hemphill tallied 9, Trenton Walstra 8, Mac Shane Howard 6, Billy Bonilla 5, Gavinn Bakker 4, Brian Tucker 4, and Ray Smith added 2.

In the championship game Kankakee Valley had a rematch with Rensselaer Central. KV came out victorious with the score being 50-42. Cameron Hempill led KV with 10 points. Billy Bonilla and Mac Shane Howard had 8, Danny Rockley added 7, Hunter Van Soest had 5, Trenton Walstra 4, Tyler Hein 4, and Ray Smith 3. Landon Balch led Rensselaer with 14 and Jaylen Gilbert added 11.

Kankakee Valley moves to 5-4 on the year. They return to conference play next week as they head north to play at Munster.

KV went on the road tonight to get a win at North Newton. The Kougars started off strong leading 17-4 after the first quarter. The KV defense held the Spartans to single digit point totals in three of the four quarters. KV was led by Cameron Hemphill with 17 points. Mac Shane Howard (13), Hunter Van Soest (7), Billy Bonilla (6), Danny Rockley (6), Ray Smith (6), Tyler Hein (4), Trenton Walstra (3), Brian Tucker (2), and Gavinn Bakker (2) all added to the scoring total. Jacob Kessler led North Newton with 8 points. The Kougars are now 3-4. They will return to action next Friday in their Holiday Tournament. They will play Boone Grove that morning.

The Lady Kougars traveled to Twin Lakes to take on the Lady Indians. Raegan Walther scored 8 of her teams 15 points in the first quarter. In the second quarter Lindsey Stokes picked up the scoring by scoring 9 of the teams 21 points. In the second half Cat Cavinder, Maddie Swart, and Sarah Martin all contributed on offense to help the Lady Kougars come out with a 65-43 win. Key defensive players of the game were Hannah Cambe, Emma Fase, and Kaylee Barrett.

Scoring leaders: Stokes 20pts, Walther 19pts, Cavinder 11pts, Martin 8pts, Swart 3pts, Fase 2pts, and Barrett with 2pts.

In the JV game the Lady Kougars we led by the hot shooting of Aubrey Toppen who made four- 3 pointers in the first quarter. Courtney Sizemore scored 11 points, and Karmen Nowak scored 9 points to help lead the JV team to a 54-20 win.

Game Recap

The Lady Kougars continued with their winning ways on Monday night by defeating Chesterton (8-4) by the score of 65-43. Leading the Kougars was the dynamic duo of Raegan Walther (24 points) and Lindsey Stokes (23 points). Kaylee Barrett and Sarah Martin also chipped in with 5 points a piece.

The Lady Kougars are now 11-1 on the season.

In the JV game the Kougars defeated Chesterton by the score of 48-30. Leading scorers were Aubrey Toppen who scored 20 points, Kailee Webster added 13, and Karmen Nowak added 9 points

The JV team is now 11-0 on the season.

In the Freshman game the Lady Kougars cruised to a 43-17 win. Irelynn Solomy led the team 14 points and Sam Martin added 9 points.

The Freshman team is now 13-0 on the season.

Game Recap

The Kougars played Andrean Friday night in a triple header that started with the freshmen team coming out victorious against the visiting 59ers. The Kats showed a lot of heart and grit with the tough win and really flexed their muscle at the defensive end holding Andrean to 27 points. The Kougars get almost a month off without a game, but will return at Hanover Central on January 12.
