Kougars News · Schoonveld Leads Lady Kougar Track and Field in 2021 Tri-Meet Wins; Team Performs Brilliantly!

The Lady Kougar Track and Field team opened the 2021 season in a big way, winning the home triangular meet with a score of 121 points. Twin Lakes had 24 and Pioneer-19. Despite this being their first outdoor meet in two years, they were in late season form, setting many personal records (PR) and performances that will be among the state’s and area bests!

Junior All-Stater Tay Schoonveld was sensational, setting three PRs and grabbing four blue ribbons! Her winning high jump at 5-6 is tied for 2nd all-time at KVHS, and her  blistering 300 hurdle win, first time ever running those,  of 48.80 is in the top five all-time! She also won the 100 hurdles in a PR of 17.39 and she anchored the winning 4×4 relay team in a 62.o split.

Freshman cross country All-Stater Emma Bell dominated the distance events with three wins: the 1600, 800 and anchoring the 4×800 winners. Her PR 1600 win in 5:48.21, is one of the fastest 1600 runs at KV in years. She won the 800 in 2:37.65 and her relay team won in 11:05.66.

Senior thrower Maddy Friant-Nannenga unleashed a BOMB to win the shot put! Her PR throw of 36-9 1/2 is the farthest in a long time at KVHS.

Sophomore Ava McKim had a fantastic day, winning three events and taking 2nd in the long jump ! She won the 100 in 13.93, the 200 in 27.92, ran great on the 4×1 winners in 52.59, and was 2nd in the long jump with a PR leap of 15-4 1/2.

Freshmen Brooke Swart and Ella Carden had monster varsity debuts! Swart sprinted to victory in the 400 in a PR time of 63.58, and ran two outstanding legs of the 4×100 and 4×400 winners. Carden won the long jump in an excellent PR leap of 16-3, took 2nd in both the 100 and 200 to her buddy McKim and ran a terrific lead off leg for the 4×100 winners!

Senior Mo Moslow tied her PR in the pole vault with a fine jump of 8-0!

Junior Alex Estes had a huge PR heave of 83-7 to win the discus!

Running on the 4×800 winners with Bell were Audrey Campbell, Em Wilson and Hal Frieden. Laynie Capellari and Elise Kasper joined Schoonveld and Swart on the 4×4 winners and Colby Sizemore anchored the 4×100 winners! Depth was very important to this team win and those places will be added on here very soon…

Capellari had an outstanding meet: placing 2nd in both hurdles, 53.92 in the 300 hurdles,  and 3rd in the high jump; Emily Nannenga was 2nd in the high jump with a terrific leap of 5-3, a performance that would win most meets! Kasper had a fine run in the 400, good for 2nd in 65.22; Maddy Murray was a huge 2nd in the 800 in 2:44.17, followed by Wilson in 3rd after a strong finish, in 2:48.17. Frieden was 3rd in the 1600; A. Campbell was 2nd in the 3200 in 13:27.16, with Lex Culbreth in 3rd. Bella Cochran took a strong 2nd in the vault at 6-6. Lucia Muratori was 4th in the long jump; Sizemore had a huge throw of 33-1, this PR throw was good for 2nd in the shot put. Tiffany, (PR of 81-03), and Trinity McBain took 2nd and 4th respectively, in the discus, as KV went 1-2-4, behind Estes’s winning throw. Carissa Seneczko had a great meet, running 19.03 in the JV 100 hurdles and 54.34 in the JV 300 hurdles, which would have placed her 4th and 3rd in the varsity hurdle races! Head Coach Lane Lewallen: ” Wow ! I knew we were deep and talented, but these performances were phenomenal ! Great job by all our girls !” KV hosts another triangular meet this Thursday night.
