Kankakee Valley High School boys’ track and field team scored 72.5 points to post victories over visiting Twin Lakes (54.5) and Pioneer (40) on Tuesday,  April 6, 2021, marking the first meet to take place in the new facilities.

Freshman Josiah Johnson led KV with a hand in three first places, including two close races in the 110m hurdles (16.51) and 300m hurdles (41.90).  He then joined frosh Ethan Ehrhardt, Justin Hoffman, and Ben Herz captured the 3200m relay decisively (9:12.86).

“Usually I see a lot of nerves and even uncertainty before a first meet, especially among the rookies,” remarked Coach Adams, “but not tonight.  I could tell that we were simply excited to have a meet again…and to compete in our new facilities.”

100m — Markus Ritchie, 4th in 11.78;

200m — Markus Ritchie, 2nd in 23.78; Bryce Brodner, 4th in 24.92;

400m — Ben Herz, 3rd in 58.58;

800m — Adam Collard, 1st in 2:13.55;

1600m — Justin Hoffman, 1st in 4:58.05;

3200m — Luke Bristol, 2nd in 11:48.07;

110m hurdles — Jacob Sandlin, 2nd in 19.32;

400m relay — 1st in 46.23 (Brodner, Logan Myers, Jack Lamka, Ritchie);

1600m relay — 2nd in 3:48.59 (Johnson, Ehrhardt, Herz, Collard);

High Jump — Jacob Sandlin, 2nd (t),with 4′ 10″; 4th, Parker Becker with 4′ 8″;

Pole Vault —  Brodner, 1st in 11-00, Xavier De La Paz Marino in 10-06;

Long Jump — Ehrhardt, 4th with 17-04;

Shot Put — Grant Musch, 2nd in 40′ 5″; Carson Hines, 3rd in 35′ 6.5″; Nathan Duttlinger 4th in 35′ 5.5″;

Discus — Grant Musch, 1st in 115-01; Duttlinger, 2nd in 107-09.

“I have seen tremendous improvement in core strength, in agility, in running technique and field event technique in the last 8 weeks to produce some strong starting marks.  I am eager to see the growth that the next 6 to 8 weeks will bring.”

KV will be in action at home again this Thursday, at 5:00pm, versus Hanover Central and Covenant Christian.
