Boys Varsity Cross Country · Boys’ cross country wins sectional title

The boys’ cross country team captured the sectional title for the second year in a row at Rensselaer Central High School on Saturday, October 12, 2019.  The Kougars scored 39 points to hold off second place Morgan Township by 5 points.

Sophomore Justin Hoffman and senior Ethan Tillema challenged for top spots at the gun, placing second and third respectively.  Hoffman’s 16:46 establish a new PR by 11 seconds.  Seniors Micah Adams and Trent Thomas 10th and 12th with sophomore Adam Collard cutting off more than two minutes from last year’s performance to place seventeenth.

Twelve schools were represented, with nine complete teams.  Sixty-six runners ran in the race.  Scores were adjusted for runners from incomplete teams.

“This is what we came to do,” stated Coach Adams, “though Morgan Township showed an impressive improvement in the last two months.  We will have to contend with them again next week as well as teams from the New Prairie sectional.  We will have to step up a bit more to make that next cut, but we are in our best position to do so in years.”

Five teams move on to next Saturday’s regional competition, hosted by Chesterton at Sunset Hills Park; five teams will move on from regionals to semi-state along with ten individuals unattached to advancing teams.
