The Kankakee Valley High School boys’ cross country team placed third in the NCC championship race by a narrow 8 point behind second place Munster. Host Lowell won with 39 points.
Sophomore Justin Hoffman ran the second best time of his career, placing 6th in 16:59 to pace the Kougars and capture 1st team all-conference honors. Senior Ethan Tillema joined him in those honors, following close behind in 7th place in 17:11.
Senior Micah Adams regrouped after the last two weeks, nabbing 2nd team all-conference honors in 15th place in 17:55. Senior Trent Thomas captured honorable mention notice with a 20th place finish in a new PR time of 18:04. Sophomore Adam Collard rounded out KV’s scoring with a 28th place finish in 18:41.
“Justin and Ethan ran about as I expected,” stated Coach Adams. “I’m pleased to see Justin under 17:00 again. Ethan rebounded nicely after a minor muscle tweak. Trent has continued to show what a runner who puts in the miles over the years can do; I’m proud of him getting honorable mention status.
“Micah and Adam ran mentally tough today in the face of some health challenges. I’m excited about what the next few weeks will bring as we put it together.
“Zack Meadows ran a PR today, his 19:41 marking his first time under 20:00. He was joined by Caden Adams, Bryce Brodner, and Jonathan Guthrie also with PRs. Many of our less-experienced runners narrowly missed their PR, running perhaps the second best time of their careers.”
