Boys’ track and field competed in the Northwest Crossroads Conference championship meet on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Hobart High School. The Kougars placed fifth with 72 points; Highland won with 151 followed by Lowell with 148.
Junior Colton Wright lead the way for KV with a second place finish in the 300m hurdles and third place in the high jump, with a career-tying 6′ leap. Junior Drew Kirincic vaulted to a second place conference finish in the pole vault. Junior Micah Adams ran a 15-second PR to secure third in the 3200m run (10:15), avenging some narrow defeats by conference opponents earlier this season.
“We did not lay down in the face of tough competition,” commented Coach Adams. “We continue to grow some athletes up and not be intimidated. Our attitude and effort bodes well for sectional competition next week.”
The Kougars also placed a second athlete in those same event:
300m hurdles, 4th place, Ryder Smith;
high jump, 4th place, Eli Gott (6’0″ PR);
pole vault, 5th place, Bryce Brodner;
3200m, 5th place, Justin Hoffman (10:23 PR).
The Kougar squad of Ty Niewoehner, Adam Collard, Cameron Sheehy, and Ethan Tillema secured 4th place in the 3200m relay.
In the throws, senior Garrett Brewster forced out another 5′ in the discus for a career-best 141′ 2″ and 5th place.
Isaiah Clair’s career-best in the 110m hurdles (17.64) earned him 5th place.
Cameron Sheehy and Ethan Tillema, fresh off of the BPA National Competition, performed on par with their seed times, scoring 5th and 7th respectively.
