Week of April 1st

photo of SamThe female nominee from Girls’ Track and Field is distance star, junior Sam tennis play BrewsterMartin. Sam set the tone for her team’s triangular meet win Tuesday by leading off the 4×800 relay winners with an excellent split time of 2:42.0. Sam also won the 1600 in a very fast early season time of 6:02.0 and placed a very strong second in the 800 with a fine time of 2:46.0. Sam is a much decorated veteran who is also a leader on this year’s team. Congratulations, Sam!
The male athlete of the week is senior track and field athlete Garrett Brewster who helped KV open the season with a double win against host Pioneer and Twin Lakes. Of the 16 events, Brewster helped KV to capture 2 of the Kougar’s 9 first place finishes as he topped the field in the shot put (40′ 61/2″) and discus (118′), contributing 10 of KV’s 89 points. Congratulations Garrett!
Week of April 8th
image of taylor schoonveldThe female athlete from Girls’ Track and Field is freshman Taylor Schoonveld. On Tuesday she had a then personal record in high jump of 5-4, good for 2nd, and wabradly gannons 2nd in the 100 hurdles and 3rd in the 200. On Saturday she started her day off with a personal record in the high jump, soaring over 5-5 to take 2nd place. Taylor also won the 400 in a time of 60.97! She finished her day with a very fast 200, closing fast to take 3rd with a time of 28.21. Taylor scored 26 points herself to lead her team to a very impressive 3rd place at the Hobart Little 5. Her high jump and 400 are among the best in school history. Congratulations Taylor on a great week!
The male athlete of the week is baseball’s Bradley Gannon. Bradley is leading the team in hitting with a .348 batting average. Bradley is also playing a solid second base and becoming a strong lead off man with an on base percentage of .483. Bradley is a positive role model for his peers as he is consistent and positive with his attitude and effort on and off the field. Congratulations Bradley!
