Kougars News · Tuesburg, Schoonveld and Nannenga Lead Girls’ Track and Field Team at Indoor Meet

On Saturday, at the Northwest Indiana Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet, the Lady Kougar Track and Field Team had one of their top performances in recent years, placing in the top eight in all but one event versus very strong regional level competition!

Junior and a 3x regional qualifier in 2018, Kailee Tuesburg, had a terrific meet! She placed 2nd in the pole vault at 9-0, which tied her life-time personal record (PR)! That jump is also tied for 21st in the state in the big school division of the Hoosier State Relays series (HSR). Then she dominated her heat of the 60 meter dash, placing 3rd overall out of 42 sprinters! Her blazing time of 8.16 is a huge PR and she is currently ranked 44th in the state. She also placed 7th in the long jump and her 4×200 team was 8th.

Freshman Tay Schoonveld was also outstanding, tying for 3rd in the high jump in an indoor PR of 4-10, which is also tied for 31st in the state. The versatile three-sport star also placed 6th in the 60 hurdles, ran a solid 60, and ran an excellent 64.0 second 400 split on the 4th place Distance Medley Relay. (DMR) Her DMR ran an excellent time of 13:53.77, one of the top times in school history, and is ranked 31st in the state.

Junior hurdler Megs Nannenga had an excellent meet, running a very strong lead-off leg for the 4th place 4×400 relay team, and blasting to 4th in the 60 hurdles in a season-best (SB) time of 10.05, which is currently ranked 40th in the state.

Running on the DMR with Schoonveld was Taylor Miller-1200, Cat Cavinder-800 and Sam Martin-1600. Cross country Most Valuable Runner Miller ran an excellent time of 4:26, Cavinder, the versatile all-around superstar and All-Stater in the 800, ran a very swift 2:27 split, and the much decorated Martin ran a phenomenal 1600 leg, splitting 5:55.0 versus several of the area’s best distance runners!

Mo Moslow had a strong pole vault, tying for 5th with a PR tying jump of 7-0. Tori Evert tied her PR and tied for 5th at 4-8. Ken Bakker, despite just missing the finals, PR’d in the shot put with an excellent toss of 28-1/2.

The 4×800 relay team was 4th led by Becca Caldwell’s 2:46 leg and Lexi Culbreth ran a 2:49.8. They were joined by Hannah Tokarz and Blythe Campbell.

Joining Tuesburg on the 4×200 was freshman Em Wilson, senior star hurdler/sprinter and basketball stand-out Sarah Martin and Cavinder. The JV 4×2 team of Madison Ward, Mikayla Hart, Jess Donovan and Avi Nunez ran very well and won their heat!

Joining Nannenga on the 4×4 was Wilson-who had two solid relay legs, same for Sarah Martin and the gutsy Miller ran it after running the DMR shortly before. Excellent meet , ladies! A big thank you to Belle E., our excellent manager, who did all the timing for us. The Lady Kougars return to action this Saturday, again at Portage High School, for a field event meet only. Go Kougs!!
