On Saturday, the 2019 version of the Lady Kougar Track and Field program had many excellent performances in their first indoor meet of the season at Portage High School, a meet that was regional level competition . There were many life time personal records (PR) already and many state ranked events as well in the big school division of the Hoosier State Relays (HSR). They also received a very nice compliment from one of the officials for their excellent attitudes. Highlight events are listed below:
Shot put: Sara Groen-29-11 1/2-4th place-PR; Kennah Bakker-27-11-PR, 6th. (Rhianna Keister-23-8, Haylee Dykshorn-23-3 1/2 and Lexi Cassell-21-10 also all PR’d.)
Pole vault: Kailee Tuesburg-7-6, tied for 3rd-ranked tied for 39th in state; Audrey Birch-7-0.
High jump: Tori Evert-4-8-tied PR-tied for 6th place, ranked tied for 34th in state; Tay Schoonveld-4-6.
4×8: Tay Miller-Becca Caldwell-Blythe Campbell (2:44 split)-Sam Martin (2:43)-11:03.23-4th place, ranked 30th in state.
Distance Medley Relay: Juliana Barlog-Em Wilson-Campbell-Lexi Culbreth (6:24 1600 split)-6th-15:35.6.
4×400: Schoonveld (sub 64 split)-Megan Nannenga-Sarah Martin-Cat Cavinder (sub 65 split)-4:28.52, 1st in heat, 4th overall, ranked 25th in state.
4×200: Tuesburg-Wilson-Sarah Martin-Cavinder-1:55.56; ranked 41st in state.
Head Coach Lane Lewallen and Assistant Coaches Kim Wilson and Rachel Mathley were all very proud of their team. Go Kougars! Their next meet is this Saturday, also at Portage High School.
