Kougars News · Boys’ cross country takes sectional title

The boys’ cross country team captured the team sectional title at Rensselaer Central High School on Saturday, October, 6, 2018.  KV placed six scorers in the top fifteen to dethrone defending champions Morgan Township, 30-38.  Kouts, Rensselaer Central, and South Newton also qualified as teams to move on the Regional competition.

“Thirty points is lowest score we’ve posted, at least in the last fifteen years,” stated Coach Adams.  “We ran a bit tired in a few spots, possibly due to the heat and week’s fatigue, but our scoring held up to my estimates.”

KV last captured a sectional title in 2014.  The Kougars scored lower in 1999 (22 points).

“Ethan Tillema felt sharp today,” Adams continued.  “He stepped up as our number one runner.  The others ran fine but off their pace a bit; they will be eager next week at Regionals.  Trent Thomas stepped up today to our #5 spot.  If he and Ryder had been back three spots, Morgan would have nipped us.”

KV moves on to compete in the New Prairie Regional on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:00am CST.

Kankakee Valley and Morgan Township runners accounted for 10 of the top 15 team-scoring positions.  Runners from incomplete teams do not affect team scoring.
