On Saturday senior Taylor Miller again led her team at the Bob Thomas Cross Country Invitational, held at Lowell High School, placing 45th/135 runners, including many top area and state runners and teams. She ran yet another personal record (PR) time of 21:35 for the 5 kilometer race, 17 seconds faster than last week, to lead her team to a solid 13th place/20 full scoring teams. Miller’s training partner and buddy, junior veteran Sam Martin, pushed her the entire way, eventually placing a strong 51st in a season-best (SB) time pf 21:41. Both Miller and Martin ran their first miles in 6:35. Freshman Emilee Wilson had a highlight race on Saturday! She blasted through her first mile in 7:01 and then kept that strong pace going, placing an excellent 70th in a HUGE PR time of 22:44, a full 1:13 faster than her previous PR! Sophomore Lexi Culbreth ran a gutsy time of 23:06, battling sickness, and placed 77th. Classmate Sami Sullivan hustled home in a SB time of 25:09, good for 102nd place, as the Lady Kougars ran with the minimum of five varsity runners this meet. Head Coach Lane Lewallen: “We competed very well this meet, again running against terrific competition. We actually doubled our win total from the first two meets here, but more importantly we keep running faster times. Tay ran another excellent PR, and Em ran a gigantic one by over a minute, with Sam and Sami running SB’s and Lex running tough, despite not feeling well. It’s not an easy thing to run a varsity race with just five runners, as Abby (Robinson) and Gracie (Edwards) heal up, and our girls did very well.” Their next meet is Saturday at the prestigious and very large New Prairie Invitational, their home away from home, and alma mater to Head Boys’ Coach Tim Adams.
