The Kankakee Valley boys’ track and field team faced conference foes in the title meet hosted by Munster on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Lowell won the conference team title; KV placed sixth with 45.33 points.
“Lowell’s been the big dog in the conference,” stated Coach Adams. “The results are humbling, and we have to learn to measure up, but as a team, boys’ track and field has taken some steps forward this year.”
Some of those steps forward came in the form of exceeding seeds, predicted placings based on previous efforts. The fifth seeded 3200 meter relay team of Dean Schmidt, Trevor Conley, Ty Niewoehner, and Ethan Tillema cut twelve seconds off of the Kougar’s best time to rise to a third place finish.
Other top finishes include Elijah Gott, tie for third in the high jump at 5 foot 10 inches and Dean Schmidt, third in the 3200 meter run with a 10 second personal record of 9:52.15.
