Girls Varsity Track · Kankakee Valley Senior Kirsten Hentschel signs with Bethel.

Kankakee Valley senior thrower, Kirsten Hentschel, officially signed with the Bethel College Pilots. Hentschel was a regional qualifier in the discus last year, and along with Emma Fase, was KV’s Co-Most Valuable Thrower in 2017. Putting in many hours on her own to perfect her craft, she has become a very versatile thrower. Currently, she owns personal records of 36′-4″ in the shot put, 103′ in the discus, 42′-5 1/2″ in the indoor weight throw and 105′ in the hammer throw. She is currently ranked 71st in the nation in the indoor weight, and is very close to the national standard in that event. Hentschel becomes the third Lady Kougar to join Coach Natali’s powerhouse team in recent years, joining 4×400 state meet qualifiers and school record holders, and sisters, Kara Gouwens and Leah Gouwens. KVHS Head Coach Lane Lewallen commented: “We are SO proud of Kirsten! Her hard work and attention to detail is really paying off. I want to give a HUGE thank you to my former throws coach David Veldman, my current throws coach Rachel Mathley, and her track club coach, Carl Patz, for all their excellent work with Kirsten. She is poised for a MONSTER senior season! Coach Natali is an outstanding coach and person, Bethel is a stellar school and program, and this is another great day for the Lady Kougar track and field program.”
