Four healthy members of the Kankakee Valley High School cross country teams competed very well this morning, on a very difficult course versus excellent competition in the McCutcheon High School Stampede, held at Wea Ridge Middle School. Sophomore star Sam Martin continues to excel, blasting up hill after hill to grab the 8th place ribbon in an excellent time of 21:31.28, maybe the best race of Martin’s stellar career to date. Freshman Lexi Culbreth also ran very strong, placing 31st in the varsity race in an excellent time of 24:34.92. It is a challenge to not have a full team to run with, as their three teammates heal for future meets, and these two handled things very well. The coaching staff decided to run freshman Sami Sullivan and senior Haley Hixson in the reserve race for experience, and both runners benefited greatly. Sullivan ran GREAT, placing 13th to earn a ribbon, in a personal record time of 26:27.62, an excellent effort on this very challenging course. Hixson ran very well also, running a season-best time of 32:15.0. Congratulations to Coach Tim Adams and his varsity and reserve boys for many great runs, the varsity boys placing a stellar 2nd as a team with 51 points! Both teams return to action next Saturday at the ultra competitive Harrison Invite.
