Multiple Teams · Kankakee Valley’s Julianna Colon Signs with Indiana Tech to Run Track and Cross!

Today, (6-14-17), Kankakee Valley (KV) High School’s Julianna Colon signed with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) powerhouse Indiana Tech of Fort Wayne to continue her academic and athletic career. She will run cross country and track for the Warriors. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Colon, sister Arianna, KV Athletic Director John Gray, Colon’s high school cross country and track and field coach, Lane Lewallen, and Tech’s coach, Josh Wolfe. Colon is projected to run the 600 indoors and the 800 outdoors, for the defending NAIA national indoor track and field champions, who also finished runner-up outdoors. She plans on studying exercise science then physical therapy. Head Coach Lewallen: “We are SO proud of Juju! Indiana Tech is an awesome program and she is a terrific young woman, with an unmatched work ethic and amazing leadership skills. She led her teams to much success, mostly by her actions, but was a vocal leader when needed. We will miss her a great deal, but are excited to wish her well in college.” Her many team achievements include: helping to lead her cross country team to a sectional title in 2016 in her first ever season of running cross country, she was also an individual semi-state qualifier, and did all this while playing a major role on KV’s fine soccer team as well; in track and field, the career multiple regional qualifier was an integral part of the 2017 team winning the squad’s seventh straight sectional championship, her fourth in a row; she ran on all three winning relay teams, (4×800, 4×100 and 4×400), at the KV sectional this year, and was also a 2x indoor state meet qualifier in the 4×200 relay. Her many varsity individual awards include: cross country- Most Improved Runner-2016; track and field-Most Valuable Mid Distance and Captain-2017, Most Improved Award-2015 and 2016, along with her many regional qualifications, she was also All-Northwest Crossroads Conference (NCC) several times in all three relays for her career, including 1st Team in the 4×400 relay; in soccer she won the Hustle Award in 2015 and 2016.
