Girls Middle School Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Lady Kougar Cross Country Team Runs Very Well at Harrison Invite

At Saturday’s ultra-competitive Harrison Invite, ALL 9 of KV’s female runners set a new personal record (PR) or a season-best (SB), vs. many of the top teams through-out the state.  Placing a strong 17th as a team, KV now has 14 wins after three meets, doubling last year’s win total!  Soph. multi-sport sensation, Cat Cavinder led the way again, placing a very strong 38th, out of 173 runners, in a huge PR time of 20:03!  Seniors Julianna Colon and Allie Tokarz, both in their first seasons of varsity cross, were stellar also, finishing in big PR times of 21:21, and 21:25, respectively, good for 79th and 86th places.  Colon then jumped in her mom’s car to star as a soccer midfielder in a home win for that fine squad, performing brilliantly in two varsity sports, in the same day!!  With star fr. Sam Martin healing from a leg injury, the rest of the KV squad all picked up the pace, pun intended.  Fr. Abby Robinson, getting stronger and faster every day, hustled home in 22:33, a GIGANTIC PR, good for 115th place.  Jr. vet Crystal Benitez, rising to the occasion, was in at 22:56, 121st place, as she recovers from a balky knee.  This was a SB for “CB”!!  Showing that EVERY runner and EVERY place matters, jr. Rach Hunter, also running with a lot of courage, was right behind Benitez in 124th place, a huge PR time for Hunter of 23:18, and just TWO places in front of McCutcheon’s #6, as KV edged the fine Mav squad for 17th, a team that had beaten KV just the week before, with the 6th place tie-breaker! Soph. Hazel Veldman also ran very tough, placing 150th in a PR time of 24:31.  KV’s sr. leaders Ally Schumacher and Kailee VanNieulande were both AWESOME in the JV race, placing 140th and 169th, out of 225 runners! Schu’s time of 25:16 is a SB, and KVN’s time of 26:33 is a very significant PR!  Coach Lane Lewallen: “I am pumped!  For all 9 of my girls to PR or SB in this tough of a meet, shows we can compete very well in big meets.  An excellent performance.  Also, a HUGE congrats to Coach (Tim) Adams, Trevor (Conley)-14th place medal, Danny (Rockley), Bryce (Niewoehner) and all the rest of our boys for a gigantic 9th place team finish in this stellar meet!!  Awesome job, boys!!”
