KV’s boys’ cross country advanced to the IHSAA regional by virtue of their second place team finish in Sectional competition on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Morgan Township won the meet with a historical low point of 22 points. KV followed with 48, Kouts was third with 86. Top five teams advance plus the top ten individuals from non-advancing teams.
“In the last 15 years or so, 48 points we scored today would win the thing,” explained Coach Tim Adams. “Morgan Township is just that good this year. But this was our best outing this year.”
KV’s top five average time of 17:25 is their fastest of the season so far and fastest on Rensselaer Central’s course since 2009. “We placed six guys in the top 20. Our fifth runner placed ahead of every runner of half the schools present.”
- Trevor Conley led KV in 3rd place in 16:44.
- Bryce Niewoehner was 5th in 17:09 (PR).
- Danny Rockley was 10th in 17:25 (PR).
- Isaac Tillema was 14th in 17:43 (SB).
- Cameron Edwards was 16th in 18:05 (PR).
Also competing for KV,
- Denver Smith (18th) in 18:20.
- Luke Solomey (26th) in 19:02 (PR).
“Today is definitely confirmation that we are beginning our peak at the right time. We still think we have more to give. The going gets tough at the New Prairie Regional. We’ve moved up in the last couple of years to finish 6th, one shy of a semi-state berth. This group still wants to race. I think we’ll make a good run for it.”
