Game Recap

The Lady Kougars and Lady Indians squared-off in a double-header at Kankakee Valley on Saturday. KV’s Mia Stevens blasted a 2-run homer in the first inning to give the Kougars an early 2-0 lead. The Indians scratched-across a run in the fourth to close the gap when Summer Vardaman’s single brought home Annabelle Karagias. A lead-off homer in the fifth off the bat of Sydney Coundiff knotted the game at 2. A solo shot by Portage’s Kaitlin Doud in the top of the 7th gave the Indians a slim 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Kougar left-fielder Heather Yates drew a one-out walk. Ashley Fisher then singled to center. McKenzie Adams then beat out a bunt to load the bases. After a fly-out by Breanna Toppen, Designated Player, Emma Maple, hit a hard shot to the left of shortstop Adrien Hall who knocked it down, but couldn’t make a play. Yates scored to tie the game. Kougar pitcher Mia Stevens then hit a hard shot off Hall’s glove to drive home the game winner.

In game 2 Portage shortstop Kaitlin Doud was 4 for 4 at the plate, 3B, HR, 2 RBI to lead the Indian’s to an 8-2 victory. Haley Perez(P) went the distance, surrendering 2 runs, on 4 hits, 2 K’s, and 2 BB’s to pick up the win. KV’s Ashley Fisher went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
