This morning KV’s Girls’ Track and Field team made the long bus ride to Goshen High School to compete in the prestigious Goshen Relays, filled with many of Northern Indiana’s top teams.  KV took 4th with 54 pts., behind South Bend (SB) Adams, Goshen and Plymouth and ahead of New Prairie, Wawasee, SB Clay and SB Washington. They competed very well against Regional+ competition and also learned a lot.  Discus star jr. Jazmyne Mehay continued her stellar season, winning the individual discus event by 14 feet, with her personal record (PR) toss of 119′-2″!  She remains 3rd among the area’s bests, and should continue to climb up the state rankings.  Kirsten Hentschel also PR’d with a fine toss of 87′-6″, and combined with Nina Freund, took a combined 2nd in the discus. Classmate Jenna Jungels also continued her outstanding season, winning the individual long jump event decisively with a leap of 18′-3/4″, and combined with Madi Fisher and Nicole Nannenga to take 2nd in the event.  Shot put was led again by another jr., Alyssa Eger, who was 4th as an individual with a fine toss of 33′-8″, and she combined with Emma Fase and Hentschel to take 3rd, as KV’s throwers continue to excel.  Pole vaulters Erin Gouwens and Abby Klemp did well, both clearing 7′ to take 4th in that event, despite having one less vaulter than several other teams.  Freshman Brooke Pumnea had a terrific high jump, tying her PR at 4′-10″, which also tied her for 3rd individually.  “Brooker” combined with Reiley (“Riles”) Burke and Georgia Frost for 5th in that event.  The distance medley relay team of Ally Tokarz-Kara Strong-Breanna Rose and Brittany Kent were 5th, with Kent blasting a terrific 1600 anchor leg.  The 400 relay team of Kara Gouwens-Julianna Colon-Leah Gouwens and Raegan Walther were 7th in 53.77.  The 1600 relay team of K. Gouwens-Colon-L. Gouwens and Jungels all ran well for 3rd in 4:13.57.  (A big thank-you to Ally Schultheis for timing all the splits again, on this long day..)  The shuttle hurdle relay team of Abbey Babe-Shanan Patrick-L. Gouwens and Jungels ran great, taking 2nd in 65.69.  The 800 relay team of Babe-Pumnea-Klemp and Walther were 5th in an excellent time of 1:56.12, with Babe running a swift lead-off leg of 27.5.  The 3200 relay team of L. Gouwens-Tokarz-Colon and Kent were a strong 4th in 10: 48.72, as the gutsy Colon (2:36.7) and speedy Kent (2:33.2) closed fast.  The 800 sprint medley team of K. Gouwens-Walther-Jungels and “Sparky” Klemp battled the heat and took 4th in 1:59.92, with Walther blistering a 100 leg in 11.4!  Klemp and Babe continue to provide talent and depth for their squad.  The freshmen/sophomore 800 sprint medley relay team of Natalie Fox-Fisher-Strong and Taylor Gideon, all ran very well, as Gideon closed fast to give this foursome a very strong 3rd place in a time of 2:09.04.  KV improves their overall record to 35-6, with three relay titles.  On Tuesday, KV travels to Highland for the NCC meet, 1st bus leaving at 2:45ish with the field eventers and 4×8’s of both genders, 2nd bus for runners, both genders, leaving at 3:15ish (this is a new time); BOTH buses leaving from the greenhouse (new location).  KV’s girls’ line-up for Tuesday is as follows:
