The 2014 version of the boys’ cross country team showed promise at Saturday’s DeMotte Rotary Ramble 5k. The annual proving field gives a pre-season glimpse of how summer training has gone and serves as a year-to-year comparing point.
Bryce Gawronski (12) bested his strong performance from last year, placing 5th overall in 16:27. Danny Rockley (10), Isaac Tillema (11), and Jacob Stemper (12), who all faced injuries last year, raced strongly after a good summer of training.
Trevor Conley (9), Denver Smith (10), and Cameron Edwards (9) each posted significant improvements in the Ramble from the year before. They number among the 10 boys who have never competed in HS cross country before.
Significant “losers” from last year include:
- Trevor Conley 2:37 faster
- Justin Edwards 3:02 faster
- Gavin Tillema 3:40 faster
- Denver Smith 4:19 faster
- Cameron Edwards 9:36 faster
The boys’ cross country team competes next in their own Hokum Karem on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
